About the Project
The Montrose Safe Routes to School Connections Project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for students and parents as they walk and bike to school. Funding for the project was awarded to the Montrose TIRZ in 2023 through the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (H-GAC) Transportation Policy Council.
Project features include:
- Sidewalks rebuilt and widened where possible for safer and more convenient pathways for all users
- Pedestrian signal at the Stanford St. and W. Gray St. intersection near Wharton Dual Language Academy
- Conversion of three intersections to all-way stops for improved traffic safety
- Individualized protection plan for each tree along the project routes
